A man from Queensland has been convicted in the magistrate’s court, after throwing a bumbag full of cannabis under a police car.
Police originally found nothing of note when they originally searched the twenty-year-old. As they drove off, officers noticed a bump – which turned out to be the bumbag the man had thrown under the car before officers searched him.
The court heard that the man then picked up the bag and ran off before returning to the scene. The man would later deny running in court. Officers later found prescription drugs in the bushes as well as 34 grams of cannabis in the man’s bumbag.
In a January 9 search of his home, officers also found an extra gram of cannabis, Seroquel pills and drug utensils.
According to the average weed prices in Australia, the total value of the cannabis is between $630 and $875. The twenty-year-old faced Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday.
He pleaded guilty to charges of ‘Possessing a Dangerous Drug’ and ‘Possessing a Restricted Drug Without a Prescription’. The man’s lawyer Ryan McCullough told the court his client started using drugs at 17 but had a good work record. The court heard that the man is a ringbarker who was intending to bring the drugs with him on the road.
Magistrate Graham Lee placed the man on 12 months probation.
