In October, Legalise Cannabis Western Australia (LCWA) party member and MP Dr Brian Walker announced plans to establish a committee into cannabis in WA.
That committee (the Select Committee into Cannabis and Hemp) is now accepting submissions as part of the Inquiry into Cannabis and Hemp. If you choose to make a submission, it will go to the committee. The committee includes MP’s Dr Walker, Matthew Swinbourn, Jackie Jarvis, Lorna Harper and James Hayward.
The committee is investigating how current legislation and regulations that govern hemp and cannabis influence medical cannabis (including its affordability and price), the barriers to nutraceutical cannabinoid products and industrial hemp for human consumption. They will use the submissions to inform a report expected one year from now.
Submissions will run until midnight of January 7th, 2022. If you would like to make a submission, please click here. There are three ways to lodge a submission:
- Through the online portal
- Through email (use the email address “[email protected]”)
- Through post (sent to PO Box A11, Parliament House, West Perth, WA, 6005)
Note: You will also find this document from Drug Free Australia on the committee’s page. In it, Herschel Baker, the Queensland Director of Drug Free Australia opposes “industrial hemp for human consumption” because of the “big picture regarding THC.” According to the Food Standards Code and the Office of Drug Control, cannabis must contain less than 1% THC to be considered “hemp.”Â
